Mother’s Day Round Up

(Giveaway is closed) Y’all know I love lokal and I want you to thrive here. My goal is to explore, find gems and bring them to you! As one momma to another I have created a round up of a few lokal favorite items and experiences that can help you focus on you, even if just for a day. Although, it should be more often than a day. If we don’t take care of ourselves then who will? You can also forward this post to a certain someone if they are at a loss for Mother’s Day.

Relax:

  • Enjoy a number of treatments at HOO Dermatology. No need to drive far as Manila has many branches. I recommend the triactive exfoliation treatment.
  • Schedule an appointment for a hair treatment at Piandre. You can even get a mani and pedi while you get your hair service. Did you know you can also just get a blow out for a nice date?IMG_5294
  • Indulge in a locally crafted soy candle from So True Naturals to set a mood and unwind.Screen Shot 2017-05-05 at 12.05.48 PM

Experience:

  • The ultimate getaway is a night at The Farm At San Benito. It doesn’t get dreamier than a coconut farm health and wellness spa. If possible, spring for a massage. Day options are available as well. DSC02609.JPG

Keep:

  • Schedule a date for a family photographer. A mother is usually the one who inflicts this on the family, how nice would it be to have it scheduled for her? That way it wouldn’t just be her coaxing everyone but a real team effort.

Wear:

  • It is all about the backpacks this year and these two from Doughnut Bags and Gouache are top notch in style and practicality. IMG_7227
  • You can’t go wrong with an item from Seek The Uniq. It is all online and gets delivered to your front door. Win win right there.

And for the grand finale…

Mommy and Me pendant necklace from local jewelry designer Heyjow. Near and dear to a mother birds heart are her baby birds. What better way to keep them close to you than to wear them. The matte gold and tassel combination are perfection. Joana Ballesteros Gube sunk her heart into this collection as she became a mother herself last year. Lucky for y’all, Heyjow wants to support us mommas and has graciously offered a Mommy and Me pendant necklace for three of you readers!IMG_7393.JPG

All you need to do is comment below with your best mommy memory.  For another entry you can follow both of us on Instagram, amommabroad and heyjow. Winner will be picked on Mother’s Day May 14.

Don’t mind the curlers, just look at my perfect motherhood necklace. I carry my three birds with me wherever I go.

  1. Love the giveway item! Well lets see … my favorite mommy memory so far is actually becoming a mother in 2016 and falling in love with motherhood. I never imagined I would love being a mommy as much as I have. My daughter is truly a gift from God and I will always credit her with making me fall in love with motherhood.

There are many great mommy memories to share… like the first time I held my eldest daughter after waiting for this moment 3 looong years where I thought I might never become a mom… Pure joy! My middle one screaming “mommy!” in a school video where she was interviewed on what she loved most… Awwwww! Or my 4 year old son telling me that he loves me more than chocolate…. Charmer! Yes, it is truly great to be a mother! 😍

My favorite mommy memory is the first time my son said I love you without prompting. He has Autism and we weren’t sure if he would be verbal so this was such a gift.

‘m not quite sure what my best Mom moment was but just to share I believe it was the time I was crying in the bathroom when Ynigo was still a baby. I suffered post partum depression after giving birth (and other mental illnesses which I still have right now). I was crying in the bathroom because I was asking myself why did I become a mom at the most untimely moment of my life — just finishing college the same year, jobless, family and money problems and much much more. I felt so lost. But I consider it my best mom moment because despite my depressive episodes, I was able to calm myself down, to back to the room, look at Ynigo while he was in his crib, and I saw him give me a smirk / smile. He probably did that not knowing I needed that at that time but I felt like somehow (well I do want to believe it was) he understood my pain, he felt it and was empathetic enough to give me that smile that took the pain away in an instant. It’s weird because I guess the best mom moments was realizing how connected my son and I are despite being a frantic first time momma at that time. Anyway that’s it, I was just so happy that it happened. Yñigo has always been my source of strength during my low points, and has been my number 1 fan in whatever circumstance ☺️Miss you Amber! See you soon!

RJ so this is tender and real! It’s so true, it’s in some of those lowest moments that we have our greatest triumphs! I’m proud of you. You’re a bad ass momma!

What a timely giveaway! I just gave birth to my second girl last May 01 (The Philippines’ Labor Day and mine too, apparently) so my favorite mama memory so far is quite fresh in my mind.

After a harrowing delivery, my 3 year old girl, the newly-minted big sister, stormed into the hospital room and made a beeline straight to me as I lay in bed, yelling “Hi mamaaaa!!!”

She clambered her little legs up and immediately snuggled into the crook of my left arm, peppering my cheek with slobbery kisses (the best toddler kind!) She began to coo and marvel over her little sister with the fresh eyes that only a small child could have.

With my new little babe nursing while nestled on my right arm and the sweetest ate nuzzling me on the other, the rest of the world melted away. Not even the excruciating pinch of a nipple being fed on or the soreness of a fresh episiotomy could take away from the moment. It was the purest bliss I’ve experienced in the 3 years I’ve had the privilege of being called ‘mama.’

  7. There are so many best mommy memories from my children and from my mom. One of my best memories of my mom is how hard she worked to provide for us. She always showed and taught us how to love unconditional love and no matter what she always was dancing! Her love and passion for Jesus is unbelievable too! She has taught us all of the above! I know this is not one specific memory but but with all of the memories put together this is what she was about! Thank you so much for such an amazing giveaway and Happy Mother’s Day to you.

My best mom moment is when my kids randomly say ” I love you” or “you’re the best, mom”. It’s nothing I prompt them to say or fish out of them. Being kids, I know they just say what they feel and it’s genuine/from the bottom of my heart. It’s such a great feeling knowing that your love is reciprocated.
