Nov 13 Easter Weaving Room + Camp John Hay, Baguio Favorites

The last week of October we went on an epic road trip from Manila -- Baguio -- Laoag/Paoay -- Vigan -- La Union (cancelled). Baguio holds my heart. The few times a year we go up their fill my void of mountains and pine trees. It reminds me so much of my mother's ranch in the mountains of Northern Arizona. Part of the reason Baguio is so magical is because of our accommodations. When America controlled The Philippines an ambassadors residence was built right on Camp John Hay, it is actually where General Yamashita surrendered The Philippines in WWll. We are lucky enough to be invited. We stay in the little cottage in the back. It has a real fire place and two bedrooms. It is a dream in the mountain clouds. It is hard to leave the serenity. No people. No cars. Just nature, oh my! When we do leave, it is for something major. Such as, Easter Weaving Room, another very happy place.

The horse rides at Camp John Hay were a first for us but will be repeated again and again. The boys absolutely loved it.

Getting a bath.

Ah, Easter Weaving Room. The first time I stepped down stairs into the loom was time travel. I was seeing the skill and practice creating the actual textile right before my eyes! It wasn't a machine or a massive factory. Humble women who have spent most of their lives perched on these looms. It was fascinating!

I have died and gone to textile heaven.
