Fort Ilocandia, Laoag, Ilocos Norte
This was the pleasant accommodation that awaited us after our seven hour drive from Baguio to Laoag. As you might suspect, it was very much appreciated. I think the boys and I were so giddy to get out of the car and the grounds were the cherry on top. Put Fort Ilocandia on your travel itinerary! For as popular and the ratings as high as they are, you would expect Fort Ilocandia to be over crowded. It is the opposite. We literally ran around in massive green grass court yards. The grounds were massive. Everything was large and green or rustic brick. It was heaven. That is why this hotel is so very appealing. It offers delicious food, spacious grass areas, large size beds and bedrooms, olympic size pool that looks as if transported from Hearst Castle in California. Lest we forget they have a zoo, spa, gym, golf range, archery and a beach. My only complaint are the hard beds. I may be spoiled but hotel beds are never my favorite.
We don't gamble so I didn't realize until hours into our stay that it had a full casino. However, if you are into that scene dad and mom can have something to do while the kids enjoy all Fort Ilocandia has to offer. It is a win win for everyone.
It is a short drive up to Laoag or down to Paoay. Post following will be all about Paoay Sand Dunes.
We liked it so much we changed our plans and stayed two nights! I highly recommend at least two nights with all the travel time. Thanks for the fantastic accommodation and family filled stay, Fort Ilocandia.
Hot Milo for breakfast each morning. Mmm.
The more Western style breakfast buffet.
There was a small portion of fruit. It seemed to be common at our hotels up North that only limited fruit and vegetables were at breakfast. Would have loved to see and eat more.
Shooting some pool with my oldest. There are multiple pool tables near the main restaurant that are open and free to all guests.
I finally tried Sinigang and I am so glad it was at Fort Ilocandia. Holy cow. Sarap sarap! I could not get enough shrimp dishes from the restaurant.
Fresh lumpia. Again, it was so fresh and delicious. The peanut sauce was the perfect balance between sweet and savory.
Behold, one of the endless courtyards we played in while waiting for our food.
The view from the courtyard. We dined al fresco every meal because...look around!
Again, everything was super sized and so open!
I was very very pleased with the bathroom situation. A shower and tub plus all amenities.
Spacious rooms.
This was just one of the courtyards. Incredible, right!?
Run free child!
I mean...
Can you tell I was won over by the grounds? How perfectly curated they are.
Our balcony. The chances of this being more picturesque are unlikely. :)
I can't end this post with out saying how absolutely kind, well trained and well versed the staff and Fort Ilocandia is. The type of customer service is a rare gem that I have come across during our time in The Philippines.
