Oh Manila, you are a gem! In today’s Manila Museum series we have Lakbay Museo. Lakbay Museo is an immersive and experiential museum which highlights many of the Philippines favorite destinations and cultural celebrations. Lakbay Museo offers a taste, both literally and figuratively, of the diverse offerings of the Philippines. Filled with color, sound, touch and taste, Lakbay Museo invites all to come experience the Philippines with their senses.

A Few Things To Note:

We visited during the Christmas week so attendance was low and we enjoyed our visit so much because it was very personal.
Tickets to Lakbay Museo are not sulit, they are 1,000php per person. I bought us a family pass on Metro Deal, which I highly recommend doing.
If you buy on Metro Deal you need to make a reservation and email your vouchers in advance.
Part of the entrance fee is consumable. Lakbay Museo gives each patron a sheet of tokens that you may choose to spend how you wish throughout your visit. You can buy a souvenir from the market place or a bite to eat. There are also free samples din!
If you have a party of more than 7-10 I recommend emailing or calling to make a reservation so you can enter at a specific time to maximize your visit.
Taking photos and selfies is also an integral part of Pinoy culture so a lot of the museum is set of up to take photos, however it isn’t only for Instagram posts. It’s a very enjoyable experience beyond just a photo opportunity.

Free Tasting|

Eating is such an integral part of Pinoy culture and Lakbay Museo incorporates this so well into the museum visit. The entrance is set up as a market place, or palengke, and has sari-sari’s offering treats and cheap souvenirs but also free suka taste tests! Yes, there are a number of different suka (vinegar) options.

You can pick up a free fish cracker (not too fishy) and use it as an edible canvas to taste test different vinegars.

I appreciate Lakbay Museo being more than ‘just a pretty place,’ it offers experiential learning. I love Ilocos and it was so fun to revisit the area.

Ethnic Wear|

Upon entering Lakbay Museo you are offered different traditional ethnic wear from all over the Philippines. As you travel through the museum there are more options to try on different clothing, learn how they are produced and also how they are used to support the Filipino through their day and life. This was one of my favorite aspects!

Textiles|

It’s no surprise that the representation of Filipino textiles was my favorite part of the visit. I love Philippine textiles and they are a variety of textiles to touch, learn about and even wear.

Food & Fiestas|

Of course food and fiestas are a large part of Lakbay Museo. I haven’t been to many Filipino fiestas so this was a nice way to get a glimpse of what the fun is all about. Food is a huge part of the museum visit, as you can see, not just to eat and sample it but even in the surrounding decor.

You haven’t lived in the Philippines if you haven’t seen the delicacy of sardines in tomato sauce, uniquely Filipino!

Climb, Ride, Play|

Thank goodness Lakbay Museo is an experiential museum! I believe all children’s museums should be interactive and you cannot say children are welcome unless you expect children to experience and learn how a child does, with curiosity and movement!

I give Lakbay Museo two thumbs up! The ticket price is a bit mahal but I believe the experience to be worth it, especially if you can get a discounted pass. The majority of our travel has been on Luzon so it was really cool to experience other parts of the Philippines through our museum visit. Lakbay Museo is a great activity to take visitors to, if you’re new to the country or want to learn more about the Philippines in a playful way! I am proud of Filipinos who continue to create such neat experiences for us Manileños.
