Pilipino Library: May Darating na Trak Búkas
Mabuhay! I am so happy to f i n a l l y be writing this Pilipino Library post about the emotionally moving book, May Darating na Trak Búkas. Photographing the book proved quite difficult so I hope this suffice. May Darating na Trak Búkas is actually an illustrated poem and was a finalist in the 2014 National Children's Book Awards. May Darating na Trak Búkas carries a heavy weight for a children's book but hauls the emotionally charged lessons lightly with short verses and unique imagery. The language text is purely Filipino which meant I needed help. I had three friends assist me in translating and they all said the Filipino used is quite intense so I added post it notes to all of my pages with the estimated English translation.
In a motley mountain of wonder and things, what new adventures does tomorrow’s truck bring?
Hard things are hard to talk about, which is why I highly respect the creators of this book. It's easy to shy away from poverty but to have a book that lends the perspective so elegantly is remarkable. Lessons of poverty from a child's angle are shared through the lens of a habitant in squalor, think along the lines of Smokey Mountain. May Darating na Trak Búkas is both breathtaking and heartbreaking. The pages are more than just a beautiful hardbound book but truly a humanizing experience.
